Nursing Diagnosis for Postpartum

Puerperium is defined as the time from the delivery of the placenta through the first few weeks after the delivery. This period is usually considered to be 6 weeks in duration. By 6 weeks after delivery, most of the changes of pregnancy, labor, and delivery have resolved and the body has reverted to the nonpregnant state.

A postpartum period or postnatal period is the period beginning immediately after the birth of a child and extending for about six weeks.

The puerperium or the postpartum period lasts for 6 weeks. It is divided into three phases:

Immediate Postpartum: the 24-hour period immediately following delivery.
Early Postpartum or puerperium: upto 7 days.
Remote postpartum or puerperium: upto 6 weeks.
